The Mayor’s Bike Ride and children’s Rodeo took place on Thursday, and what a beautiful
day it was in Huntsville. The crowd was full of excitement and a love of cycling.
“The Mayor’s Bike Ride has always supported policy areas around active transportation living,” said Huntsville Mayor Nancy Alcock. “It promotes a healthy community and safe community,” she added.
The community event, held in partnership with local cycling organizations, businesses, and the Ontario Provincial Police, brings together riders of all ages to promote bike safety, active transportation, and healthy living.
This year’s event took place at the Canada Summit Centre and featured activities geared toward both young riders and experienced cyclists. The Kids’ Bike Rodeo gave children between the ages of four and nine the opportunity to practice important cycling skills through obstacle courses and safety challenges designed to improve braking, turning, and maneuvering abilities.
Meanwhile, residents joined Mayor Alcock for the annual Mayor’s Bike Ride through Huntsville.
Mayor Alcock said the event is about more than recreation, noting that cycling helps build confidence, independence, and community connection while encouraging healthier lifestyles.
The event is also tied to the Town’s “Gear Up for Kids” initiative, a program aimed at helping local youth gain access to bicycles and safety equipment. Community sponsors and donors contribute bikes and gear to children who may not otherwise have access to them.
The combined Mayor’s Bike Ride and Rodeo brings together families, volunteers, community groups, and local businesses in support of active transportation and road safety.
The Huntsville OPP reminded motorists and cyclists alike to share the road safely, especially during the busy summer cycling season.
The Mayor’s Bike Ride and Kids’ Bike Rodeo are held annually as part of Bike Month celebrations in Huntsville.
