Bracebridge mayor Graydon Smith to run as provincial PC candidate for Parry Sound-Muskoka

The Ontario PC Party announced today that Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith will be its Parry Sound-Muskoka candidate in the 2022 provincial election.

“I am incredibly honoured to have the opportunity to represent the place I’ve always called home, and the many great people and communities of this riding at Queen’s Park,” said Smith in a PC Party media release. “I am proud to follow in the footsteps of Norm Miller, who dedicated over twenty years of his life to public
service.”

Yesterday, MPP Norm Miller announced that he would be retiring prior to next year’s election.

Smith was elected as mayor of Bracebridge in 2010 and is currently also the Deputy Chair of the District Municipality of Muskoka, and the president of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO).

“Graydon Smith has been an absolute champion for the people not only as Mayor of Bracebridge but
also in his work representing Ontario’s 444 municipalities throughout the pandemic as President of the
Association of Municipalities Ontario (AMO),” said Premier Doug Ford, leader of the Ontario PC Party.

According to the Ontario PC Party, Smith is the past-president of the Ontario Small Urban Municipalities (OSUM) and also served as a District Councillor for Muskoka and Town Councillor for Bracebridge from 2006 to 2010. In addition, he spent more than a decade with the Kinsmen Club of Bracebridge, where he served as
president and project chair for a variety of community-focused events. In 2019, he was selected as the
Bracebridge Rotary Club’s “Citizen of the Year” and made an honorary Paul Harris Fellow. He was the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013.

The 43rd Ontario general election will be held on or before June 2, 2022.

Green Party parked outside my home on 1 Glenwood Drive and 3 people stopped by to talk. You drop by a few days ago and park right out front where we have a Cancer bottle drive poster. No knock on the door. A pity

Hope you loose your track record on the environment is awful!

  5. Fran Coleman says:

  6. Greg Reuvekamp says:

Very happy for my friend Graydon, who has worked very hard and deserves this chance to further serve the people of Muskoka. In answer to Ms. Mackesy above, I first met this man when we were both students at Huntsville High School. He grew up in Port Sydney, and definitely is a supporter of Huntsville, indeed all of Muskoka. He will represent Huntsville residents very well.

  7. Marcia Mackesy says:

HUGE ISSUE to keep Huntsville Hospital – Graydon quietly supported having 1 Acute Care site in Bracebridge by donating the land to MAHC. Norm Miller supported our 2 Acute Care model. Do you think Graydon, who is Bracebridge-centric will fight for Huntsville Hospital?
Also, the MPP has been from Bracebridge for the last 20 years. What about representation from the rest of the district.
Do we not have a right to vote for who the new Conservative candidate will be?

Good news … and fast on the heals of Mr. Miller. (His shoes haven’t even left the building…)
I wish you all the best in the upcoming election and likely serving as our newly minted MPP.
Nice to have good representation for P.S. & M. in both houses, Ottawa and Q.P.
