The Etwell Concert Series is set to deliver another memorable afternoon of live music this Sunday as acclaimed musician and producer Lance Anderson teams up with soul singer and multi-instrumentalist Matt Weidinger for a tribute to two of the greatest keyboard legends in music history.
The performance, taking place Sunday, July 12, from 3 to 6 p.m. at 2012 Etwell Rd., will celebrate the music of Booker T. Jones and Billy Preston, whose influence on rhythm and blues, soul, rock and gospel continues to resonate with audiences around the world.
Anderson, a Juno Award-winning record producer, Maple Blues Award-winning keyboardist, songwriter and show producer, is known for creating unique tribute concerts that showcase some of popular music’s most influential artists. For this special Etwell Concert Series performance, he has invited Matt Weidinger to join him on stage.
Weidinger has earned a reputation as one of Canada’s most dynamic young performers. A gifted singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, his soulful voice and energetic stage presence have made him a favourite among blues, rock and soul audiences.
Together, the pair will pay tribute to Booker T. Jones, the legendary frontman of Booker T. & the M.G.’s, whose signature Hammond organ helped define the sound of Stax Records. Jones is best known for timeless instrumental classics such as Green Onions, Melting Pot and Hip Hug-Her, while his work as a songwriter, producer and session musician has earned him widespread acclaim, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
The concert will also honour Billy Preston, whose extraordinary career saw him perform alongside some of the biggest names in music, including Little Richard, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Often referred to as the “Fifth Beatle,” Preston played keyboards on the Beatles’ iconic recordings of Let It Be and Get Back.
Beyond his celebrated collaborations, Preston enjoyed a successful solo career with chart-topping hits including Will It Go Round in Circles and Nothing from Nothing. He also co-wrote You Are So Beautiful, later made famous by Joe Cocker.
The tribute promises an afternoon of classic songs, masterful musicianship and stories celebrating two artists whose keyboards shaped generations of popular music.
Fans of Anderson won’t have to wait long for another opportunity to see him perform. He returns to Huntsville’s Algonquin Theatre on July 16 with The Last Waltz: Celebrating the Music of The Band, a concert honouring the legendary Canadian-American roots rock group.
