THIS BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT SHINES ON
Brought to you by this community-minded business because they recognize
that good business is good for everyone:
This month, Doug Sullivan, General Manager and partner at Bickley Ford, was selected as one of five finalists in the Ambassadorship category of the Canadian Automotive Dealers Association’s (CADA) Laureate recognition program.
“I’ve met many outstanding dealers but those that are CADA laureates are truly the cream of the crop of our industry,” said John White, President and CEO of the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association in a video announcement.
There are more than 3,200 dealers across the country and just 15 have been selected as finalists in one of three categories. Sullivan is honoured to be among them.
“I feel a bit humbled, especially being a small dealer. To be in that league is impressive and it’s nice to know that your peers are thoughtful enough to get you that far,” says Sullivan.
He attributes his nomination to several things. First, his role in helping to amalgamate the Ontario Automotive Dealers Association, of which he was president at the time, with the Toronto Dealers Association under the banner of the Trillium Automotive Dealers Association (TADA) in 2012. He was then president of the new association in 2015, which led to overseeing the Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS) for 2017.
Second is his commitment to supporting the local community. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Huntsville, which has spearheaded many community initiatives including the new River Mill Park bandshell and the skate park at McCulley-Robertson, and he supports local groups as much as he can.
As a community-minded person, I try to do what I can. I get a bigger kick out of supporting people than I do on spending money on advertising.
Sullivan will know by the end of June whether he’s been selected as the top Ambassador for this year. A team at the Ivey School of Business at Western University is reviewing the nominations to determine a winner. With the win comes recognition and a jacket to commemorate the honour. “It’s like the Masters golf tournament for us – it’s a prestigious jacket that you can wear to industry events.” And if it’s awarded, he’ll wear it with pride.
