Annual Skokie Skate will welcome almost 500 skaters; volunteers needed

The Huntsville Skating Club is excited to welcome close to 500 skaters to the Canada Summit Centre for the 39th Annual Skokie Skate Competition. Running Friday, October 20 to Sunday, October 22, 2017, the event will feature skaters from across the province with daytime and evening events.

Skokie Skate is a Skate Ontario sanctioned figure skating qualifier and invitational competition. PreNovice, Novice, Junior and Senior skaters will be using this competition as a part of their qualification for Provincials.

Competitors will range from those competing in their first competition at Star two (many recent graduates of CanSkate, Skate Canada’s Learn to Skate program) to established competitive skaters at the Senior level. Events will include free skate, interpretive, elements, triathlon and team element events.

Among the skaters will be the Huntsville Skating Club’s own Sofia Asturi, Brianna Belfry, Kaitlyn Belfry, Lindsay Breakenridge, Kaitlyn Brushey, Haley Heap, Lia MacDonald, Madison Searle, Ainslie Vallentin, Ashleigh Vallentin, and Carson Vallentin all looking to proudly represent their hometown. HSC hopes the community will come out to cheer on these local skaters.

Open to the public. Admission is $6 per day or $10 for a weekend pass. Seniors and children under 12 are $4.

The Huntsville Skating Club is also seeking volunteers to help in the background of this event.
