More than 350 Nordic skiers came from all over Canada to compete and enjoy the family-friendly atmosphere at the annual Muskoka Loppet on Sunday, January 26, at Arrowhead Provincial Park.

Smiling volunteers—who were on hand to direct the skiers and spectators, keep skiers hydrated along the race routes, and support them at the finish line—made up for the grey skies, and both the temperatures and Arrowhead staff ensured there were great trail conditions for the skiers.

The participants—who ranged in age from six to 88—competed in 5km, 15km or 30km distances. There were challenging hills and corners that tested the skiers’ skills, resulting in a few wipe outs.

Some were there for the fun, others had their sights set on the podium. No matter what distance the skiers raced or what position they finished in, everyone who crossed the finish line was greeted by cheers from encouraging spectators to congratulate them on their accomplishments.

After their races, skiers enjoyed a warm lunch and beverages compliments of Erika’s in Dwight.

Arrowhead Nordic Ski Club representatives said that they appreciate all of the sponsors and volunteers who help to make this annual event a success.
