Algonquin Outfitters helps invite visitors from around the world to Muskoka at UK travel show

In a world full of choices for travel, we sometimes forget about the incredible beauty in our own back yard and how attractive it is to visitors from other locales.

Local businesses and organizations work hard to share the message that Muskoka and nearby Algonquin Park are travel destinations well worth the trip – Algonquin Outfitters (AO) is one of them.

In January, Algonquin Outfitters was one of four Ontario-based tourism operators – along with Naturally Superior Adventures, Owl Rafting and Red Lake Outfitters – selected by Travel Ontario to represent the province at the UK Adventure Travel Show in London, England.

“We were really excited to be selected as one of four premier outfitters in Ontario to go over to the UK Adventure Travel Show to make a presentation,” said AO’s owner Rich Swift. “Through working with our provincial partners we are going to increase awareness of not only Algonquin Outfitters, but also Algonquin Park and the beautiful Muskoka region.”

It was an honour to be invited, added Randy Mitson, AO’s Marketing Manager, and an opportunity to show off something not available in a lot of places. “We live in such a different place – if you look at the imagery on the show’s website, there’s a lot of desert or sand dunes. We have something really unique in Canada and we try to entice people to come here for canoe trips. There are quite a few canoeists in England but they don’t have a spot where you can canoe for eight days straight and not see a road or a house.”

AO doesn’t just promote the region to international visitors. Mitson was recently at a Scouts convention representing Algonquin Park at talking about experiences beyond what you might expect to find.

“I was a Scout when I first went to the Park. I expect the canoe trips, but I want to explore beyond that, beyond pitching a tent and sleeping under the stars,” said Mitson. “I want people to understand that there’s a whole undiscovered backcountry with a rich history that many don’t know about.”

And then there’s the Toronto Outdoor Show, this year on February 24-26, which AO has been attending for decades.

“Thousands of people attend the show every year and it give us the opportunity to let them know about the incredible outdoor adventures available just a few hours away,” said Mitson.

You’ll find AO in booth 548 in the Ontario Outdoor Adventure Zone at this year’s show in the International Centre in Toronto if you want to stop by and say hi.
