September 30, 1961 – June 6, 2024
It is with deep sadness and great love that the family of Mac Souter announce his passing, with family by his side, on June 6, 2024 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Mac had a lively creative spirit, with a good heart. Life took him down many paths of adventure and misadventure. He lived and loved as best he could. Mac used his considerable artistic creativity and talent in woodworking to make art carvings, carpentry, wooden boats, rocking horses and whatever he could fashion with the materials and tools he had at hand. Mac also loved music and his guitar and wrote many songs.
Mac is predeceased by his father Alastair (2007), mother Monta (2010) and his beloved daughter Naomi Rachel Locke-Souter (2022).
Mac is survived by his sisters Nikki Logan (John), Lisa Hambrock (Martin) and Teri Souter (Benn Metcalfe). Mac is lovingly remembered by nephews and nieces Eyan, Jessica, Sarah, Juliana and Isaac, and many friends.
We are grateful to the many people who helped Mac throughout his life, most recently the social and medical practitioners in Campbell River, Nanaimo and Vancouver. Mac’s family also extends deep gratitude to the many people who assisted them in many ways during this time.
There will be a private family repatriation at a future date. If wished, donations in Mac’s memory would be appropriately directed to Canadian Mental Health Association Muskoka at https://mps.cmha.ca/ or alcohol and addictions outreach in your local area.
Rest in Peace in the harmony of the spheres, baby brother.

My sincere condolences to the Souter girls. I can say that because I have not seen them since they were girls. Thinking of you.

I remember being up at the bow of a 25 or 30-foot sailboat Mac had rented or borrowed, and looking back toward the stern where Mac had been steering only a few seconds previously. He was nowhere to be seen and the boat was now going wherever it wanted in a fairly strong wind.
Someone dove under the swinging boom and grabbed the tiller and the rest of us scrambled to come about and head back to maybe where we’d last had a captain.
After what seemed like quite a while Mac appeared from the deep holding his Ray Ban sunglasses above his head shouting “I got them!”
