Aitchison urges support for new Conservative leader

It wasn’t the result he was looking for, but Parry Sound Muskoka MP Scott Aitchison is encouraging voters to throw their support behind the new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.

Last night Pierre Poilievre was named the new leader of the Conservative Party after securing his victory on the first ballot. Poilievre took 22,993 of the 33,800 electoral points available. Poilievre received just over 68% of the vote – far more than his closest rival Jean Charest, who received 16% of the vote. Aitchison finished last in the race with just over 1% of the vote.

“I hope to speak to many of you in the coming weeks to thank you for your support, and encourage you to support our next leader, Pierre Poilievre,” said Aitchison via Twitter. “I am extremely grateful and blessed for the thousands of Canadians who purchased memberships, donated to my campaign, and voted for me as leader.”

Poilievre is the first leader to be elected on the first ballot since Stephen Harper in 2004.

Well done Scott and I admire the way you ran your campaign
Don’t give up now ,your just getting started
You will have a long political career ahead if you want it
Your common sense approach will lead !
You just gotta get better known and you will
Be patient and good things will come
And thank you on Behalf of all us law abiding ,licensed gun owners and sport hunters

You do have the proper perspective and are educated as too the truth
Trudeau and Blair and Mendocino are just using us as pawns to get votes from the uneducated in this matter

    Regards
    Peter

Let’s just give give Pierrre Poilevre a chance you guys are condemning him before he gets a chance to prove himself, He wasn’t my first choice but he won and that is what matters . I just hope he’s done blowing off steam now and realizes there is a lot of work to do and he has a great bunch to help him do what is right for the party. The main thing is we have to get rid of all the corruption and illegal stuff going on in Ottawa now and get a govt in power that listens to the people I for one have had enough of a dictatorship.

Values and the soul of a political party can be easily gaged by the leader they chose. The Conservatives can not possibly hope to attract many votes from the disgruntled Liberal voters at the next general elections.

Many Liberals may be disgruntled indeed, but they will never go quite as far right as to support a party that is now led by a man who supported civil unrest in the Capital and who seems to be courting extreme far-right elements of our society just to get votes from such unsavory quarters of the Conservative membership.

The number of Conservatives who voted for PP clearly shows what the considerable numbers of Conservatives stand for. Are the Canadian Conservatives trying to emulate the American Trump admirers within the GOP?

I am looking forward to seeing how far will the new leader of the PC party take his followers.

‘Wasn’t the result he was looking for.’
Well it sure wasn’t the result I was looking for. From this group it was hard to choose. But now I’m suppose to get behind this new leader?
Is there a comprehension problem here?
I still don’t like, or expect this man to be a leader. He will have to display and excecute leadership before I will see him as one. Right now he just talks big.
I don’t think I’m the only one searching for Conservatism and a leader.
He ain’t it. And I don’t think he’ll be it.
Sorry Scott. You get behind him if you now want.
Do you even have a choice?

PPCs got 800K votes last time.
Trudeau is rooting for the gravel-throwing PPCs
Conservatives continue to fragment and self-destruct.
To appeal to Canadians they need to lean left.
To appeal to PPC voters they need to lean right.
    You can’t do both.

Saddened and a little horrified by the support Pierre Polievre got from Conservatives. Hoping he will earn respect with actual leadership vs offering negativity, which is less than nothing. Further polarization of Canada we do not need.Good Luck Mr. Aitchison.
