Aitchison officially running for Conservative leadership

Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Scott Aitchison has officially announced his candidacy for the leadership of the federal Conservative Party of Canada.

Aitchison announced yesterday via social media that he’s running for the leadership.

A post went up on Twitter at roughly 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday with the caption, “Let’s be bold. Let’s be ambitious and filled with hope. Our best days are still ahead – let’s work together to get the job done.”

The post also links to a website promoting Aitchison’s candidacy as well as a promotional video.

Aitchison joins fellow leadership candidates Pierre Poilievre, Leslyn Lewis, Roman Baber, Jean Charest, Patrick Brown, and Joseph Bourgault.

Aitchison is the former mayor of Huntsville and was elected as MP for this area in 2019. While in federal office he has served as the Conservative’s labour critic.

I am more than happy Scott is running for the leadership. He may not have the political experience of a couple of the other candidates but In my view he is the best one to bring the party together as well as the rest of Canada and the way we are divided now because of the pandemic we sure need a leader that can lead as well as listen to everyone and I think Scott has proven that he will listen to all people and parliament members. This is what we need to get this country back on its feet so we can be proud of it again.

  2. Murray Christenson says:

This is nothing more than a PR campaign to raise his profile. He’ll be dropped after the first ballot…not even remotely qualified. That said, given the mess the conservatives are in right now and the embarrassment they’ve been to the country of late, maybe he could sneak through.

  3. Sherri McGrath says:

I think he should not run as he does not have enough political experience to run the country. He barely ran Huntsville and has only been MP since 2019. It does not seem the cons have much to pick from though, looking at the list of who is running to lead the party, noone really stands out as they could actually run this country.

  4. The music for Scott Aitchison’s video makes him appear FORD tough.
