A new twist on a new craze: bush poker axe throwing

THIS BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT SHINES ON

Brought to you by these community-minded organizations because they recognize that
good business is good for everyone:

Axe throwing is popping up all over, but in Muskoka we do things a little differently. Find Your Wild, an outdoor adventure company just east of Huntsville, has created a unique and true-to-Muskoka axe-throwing venue.

Many axe-throwing facilities are located in big, concrete warehouses, but not at Find Your Wild—they take you into the woods to perfect your toss.

“It’s the most fun you’ll have in the bush,” says Find Your Wild’s owner, Jamie Honderich (a.k.a. Hondo).

Get an introduction to the activity with traditional axe throwing—a guide will take you for one hour of target practice and games.

Or Find Your Wild’s two-hour Bush Poker Axe Throwing Trail takes traditional axe throwing and turns it into an adventure. Guides will take you on a short stroll through the Muskoka forest to be challenged by their 16-station course—throw from a stump, walk the plank, hit targets and try more fun challenges.

True to its name, you have the option of incorporating a game of poker into the course. Hit the target and make your best poker hand with the results—it’s a game within a game that always seems to get super competitive.

“It’s not your typical activity, which is what makes it so perfect for groups,” says Hondo. “If you have been left in charge of planning the activities for a bachelorette, stag, staff party, family reunion, or just a group of friends, plan something no one has ever done before. The more people, the more fun it is!”

In celebration of the activity’s opening weekend at Find Your Wild, bring three friends and you throw for free on Saturday, Sunday and Monday (June 30-July 2, 2018).

Axe throwing is just one of many outdoor adventures at Find Your Wild. There’s also firefighter adventures, stand up paddleboard adventures, wilderness scavenger hunts and backcountry bush challenges.

Through his company, Hondo wanted to give people “the chance to explore easily accessible wild space. I believe that wilderness has the power to inspire and transform and I’m excited to share it.” For more information visit findyourwild.ca.
