The Huntsville High School junior boys basketball team is once again a force to be reckoned with, heading into the end-of-January exam break just one win away from wrapping up an undefeated regular season.
The run has seen the team improve their play with each subsequent game as the boys prepare for the upcoming Muskoka Parry Sound Finals. The developing chemistry was blatantly obvious during Huntsville’s dominant performance in their last regular season meeting against Bracebridge, when rookie Zack Boyko went off for 25 points, including six from beyond the 3-point arc, while his older brother and team captain Bronson added 23 of his own. It was the team’s largest win over Bracebridge this season.

“The boys have been playing very well this year,” said coach Terry Barber. “We had a tough tournament in Bradford to start the season, but have continued to improve since then.”
The team has had to battle their way through adversity, losing in the B division finals of their next tournament in North Bay by a last second basket. In their most recent tournament, things truly started to come together for the Hoyas, who defeated Patrick Fogarty, one of their potential GBSSA competitors and rivals in the championship.
“The entire team has really been maturing and coming together nicely for us as we have progressed through the season,” said Barber. “We are hoping to continue this trend into February with a tournament at Villanova College in King City, followed by our MPS playoffs.”
After a lengthy break for exams and end of semester projects, the boys will be back in action for said playoffs beginning February 16-19.
