Muskoka Women in Arts Festival

YWCA’s Muskoka Women in Arts Festival comes to Huntsville on March 8

On Wednesday, March 8, the Muskoka Women in Arts Festival takes the stage at the Algonquin Theatre.
This event will celebrate International Women’s Day as well as honour women artists from across
Canada.

The evening will be a celebration of arts and film, dance, theatre, art and performance. Several short
films directed by Canadian women will be featured, including: Big Mouth by Andrea Dorfman, Mabel by Teresa MacInnes and Maud Lewis – A World Without Shadows by Diane Beaudry. There will also be a screening of the Academy Award winning short documentary The Lady in #6: Music Saved My Life by Malcolm Clarke. This film tells the story of how a Holocaust survivor uses music to heal and celebrate life. We meet Alice Herz-Sommer, the world’s oldest Holocaust survivor as she explains the importance of music and laughter in her life.

Muskoka Women in Arts Festival will also feature talented Muskoka artists and performers. Actor Robin Clipsham and singer-song writer Ruth Cassie will be performing. Community Living Huntsville’s All Abilities Dance troupe will be on hand to share their extraordinary talents. Short films by Suzanne Riverin and the YWCA’s Strong Girls Strong World participants will also be screened.

The doors to Partners Hall open at 6pm with the opening reception of the 150 Faces Art Exhibit. This exhibit features 150 portraits of inspirational women as created by the Muskoka community. The film screenings and stage based performances start at 7 pm.

The event is open to everyone and suitable for all ages. Admission is by donation and there will be light refreshments available at intermission.

Muskoka Women in Arts Festival is sponsored by RBC and funded in part by Ontario 150.
