Young dancers shine in final competition of the season

The JJ Dance Competitive Team came home with more hardware after some amazing results this past weekend (April 21-24) at LUV2Dance, held at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville.

The kids sautéed right into things on Friday, with all eight numbers achieving over 90 per cent! Our Mini Jazz group We Are Family got a Third Place Overall and our acro trio Near Light got First Place Overall in their respective categories.

The trend continued on Saturday with all of our competitors receiving over 90 per cent for their routines. By the time Sunday rolled around, our dancers were ready to steal the show!

Ashley Nadrofsky and Bella Main each received a Third Place Overall Award for their solo efforts, as did Bella and Darian’s jazz duet Higher.

Four numbers received a Second Place Overall Award: our petite tap group All Aboard, Claire Quinlan’s hip hop solo Bust A Nursery Rhyme, the hip hop trio Best Friends, and Alexus and Emma-Grace’s contemporary lyrical duet Saeglopur.

Our Around the World Gurls hip hop group got a First Place Overall Award and, in a tremendous group effort, the entire team got a First Place Overall Award for their extended line production Twist That Frown Upside Down.

Special Judges’ Awards went to our hip hop quartet J Crew for being “Too Cool For School,” our acro trio for creating “Pretty Pictures,” our junior ballet group for having “Fantastic Flow,” and Bella Main for being a “Sassafrass.” Mackenzie Ritchie won in the brand new category “Most Photogenic.”

Not to be outdone by her students, Miss Jen walked away with not one, but TWO choreography awards: Around the World Gurls (hip hop) and Higher (jazz).

LUV2Dance creates a National Elite Team at the end of the competitive season and three of our dancers were invited to join: Bella Main, Ashley Nadrofsky and Alexus Banks. Now that’s exciting!

Overall, the dancers and their teachers had an incredibly successful weekend and although they’re all extremely tired from their efforts, they can’t wait to do it again.

“We have had our most successful Competition season yet,” said studio owner Jennifer Johns-Main. “This is only the studio’s fourth year competing so it’s pretty amazing that we keep up right along with larger studios with more competitions under their belts.”
Next up for JJ Dance is their year-end recital May 28 and 29 at the Algonquin Theatre featuring all of the JJ Dancers and a few special guests.
