Young artists invited to participate in District’s annual ‘Create the Cover’ contest

The annual District Municipality of Muskoka Create the Cover contest is underway and students from grade one through grade eight who live or attend school in Muskoka are invited to submit their artwork for consideration.

One winning design will be selected by a panel of judges to be featured on the cover of over 50,000 copies of the 2016/2017 Annual Waste Management Guide, distributed to residents across Muskoka. The winning student will also receive a $100 gift certificate to the educational supply store of their choice and a personalized letter from District Chair John Klinck.

“The Create the Cover contest provides Muskoka’s youth with a creative opportunity to showcase their artistic talents while demonstrating their passion and commitment towards protecting the environment,” says Quinn Michell, Public Awareness Representative with the District.

Entries must follow the theme of “I Recycle Because…” and feature two Blue Boxes to promote the sorting of recyclables into two streams – paper products and containers. All artwork must be created by hand and students are encouraged to be imaginative and colourful. Acceptable materials include pencil-crayon, marker, chalk, crayon, charcoal, paint and water colour.

Contest details, entry forms and information about waste diversion programs in Muskoka can be found by visiting, or click here to download an entry form.

Entries are due no later than 4:00pm on Friday, December 4, 2015. Entries can be submitted in the following ways:

  • By mail or delivered in person to the District of Muskoka Administration Building at 70 Pine Street in Bracebridge, P1L 1N3
