YMCA Training Day highlights local options for job training

There are more options for job training in the Huntsville and Muskoka area than you might think. A coming training day hosted by YMCA Employment and Learning Services (60 King William Street, Huntsville)  on Monday, November 2 (11:00am-3:00pm) will showcase eleven training providers. Most are either within Muskoka or are relatively near by.

“Locally there isn’t a lot of awareness about the different training providers available,” said Heather Dix, Employment Specialist, YMCA Employment and Learning Services. “People often think they have to leave the area to get training but that isn’t necessarily true. Because these choices are closer by, they can be more affordable, doable options.”

The Adult Education and Training Centre offers courses for people wanting to complete a grade 12 diploma. Georgian College will be available to answer questions about post-secondary education and options if you don’t already have a high school diploma.

Contact North, based in Bracebridge, helps people research online training options to find right opportunity, assists with training applications and can even proctor exams for online courses. They periodically travel to Huntsville to meet with people at the YMCA

5th Wheel Training Institute, a skilled trades trainer including heavy equipment operation and AZ / DZ driver training, is located in New Liskeard but can provide accommodations for trainees

The training providers who will be at the Training Day are:

  • AETC – Adult Education and Training Centre
  • Canadian Forces
  • Muskoka Community Network
  • Contact North
  • Canadian Career College
  • Modern College of Hairstyling and Esthetics
  • PTC – Progressive Training College of Business and Health
  • Muskoka Small Business Centre
  • 5th Wheel Training Institute
  • Georgian College
  • YMCA Learning Services

The YMCA encourages anyone interested in training options and services to come and meet representatives from these trainers.  There is no cost to attend.
