YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka announces one-week Changemaker Leadership Institute scholarship

From YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is proud to announce a new scholarship program to support youth participation in its Youth Changemaker Leadership Institute this summer.

As part of its ongoing commitment to developing the next generation of leaders, the YMCA will offer a total of 25 scholarships, with five youth selected from each of the five communities where the program is available across Simcoe County and Muskoka. These scholarships will cover the full cost of this dynamic, one-week leadership experience designed to inspire and equip young people with the skills and confidence needed to drive meaningful change in their communities.

The scholarships are open to youth aged 9-14, and recipients will join their peers for a week of hands-on learning, community engagement, and leadership development. The Youth Changemaker Leadership Institute aims to provide youth with the tools to become leaders in their communities and create positive change on the issues they care about most.

“This scholarship program is a game-changer for youth across Simcoe County and Muskoka,” said Pamela Marck, Vice President of Strategy & Innovation at the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. “By removing financial barriers, we’re opening doors for all youth, regardless of background, to access this transformative opportunity. Our goal is to inspire young people to pursue their passions and make a meaningful impact in their communities. This program not only supports the scholarship recipient but also creates a ripple effect, empowering youth to become agents of change and fostering a stronger, more vibrant future for everyone.”

As part of the #ChangeTheNow initiative, the program encourages youth to apply their new skills to real-world challenges, helping them make a tangible impact in their local communities.

“This is an exciting moment for the YMCA as we launch this new youth program,” said Dale Rowe, Manager, Innovation and Changemaking Initiatives at the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka. “We can’t wait to welcome youth into this initiative and see the incredible potential it unlocks. This program represents a new way for us to support young people in pursuing their dreams, and we’re already looking ahead to how we can expand it to other communities. Our hope is to bring this opportunity to even more young people, empowering them to create a lasting impact and be the spark that ignites change in their communities.”
