It is with great pleasure and excitement that the YMCA of Simcoe Muskoka is announcing the launch of the Culinary Arts Pre-Apprenticeship Program in Huntsville! This initiative is being delivered by the Huntsville YMCA Employment and Learning Services in partnership with Georgian College Muskoka and is funded by the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities.
The YMCA has heard from many local employers that their recruitment efforts are not producing the skilled culinary staff they are hoping for. To address the skills shortage of Cooks in the Huntsville area, this program is geared to prepare up to 18 participants to gain their Level 1 Cooks training that will qualify them to move into an apprenticeship as a Cook, Assistant Cook, Chef, or Institutional Cook.
The program is being offered free to selected participants and runs February 29 – September 23, 2016. This 30 week program includes several phases including 4 weeks of academic upgrading to prepare the participants for the academic training portion of the program, 2 weeks of workplace skills training, 12 weeks of academic training (Level 1 Cook Apprenticeship training), and 12 weeks of paid on the job work experience in both an hospitality and institutional environment. All training will be delivered in the Huntsville area.
