Workplace accident results in death of local man

Friends and family are mourning the death of Mark Lalonde. According to the Ministry of Labour (MOL), Lalonde was working for Landscaping Muskoka doing work for homeowners in the Huntsville area on August 1, 2017 when he suffered a fatal accident.

The MOL states it is currently investigating the incident. “The Ministry of Labour was notified of a workplace incident in Huntsville. It was reported to MOL that the worker was cutting stone and sustained a fatal injury. MOL inspectors and an engineer were dispatched and attended the scene. The employer is Landscaping Muskoka, and the constructor are the homeowners. The following requirement and orders have been issued:

  • One (1) requirement to the employer – Landscaping Muskoka to provide documentation.
  • Two (2) orders to the constructor (home owners) related to filing of documentation.

“The Ministry of Labour investigation is ongoing,” reads a written statement by Ministry representative Benjamin Lim.

Lalonde, 38, and his family had just purchased a home in Burk’s Falls, according to a GoFundMe campaign established to help the family through their loss. Community members are being asked to help the family during this difficult time. If you are able to make a donation, please click on this link.
