Share the Road

With a busy summer ahead, the OPP reminds people to share the road

When the sand on the roads is finally gone, more enthusiasts will be spending their time out enjoying the season and what Muskoka has to offer. Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind motorists and cyclists about the importance of sharing the road.

Although Huntsville and other areas of Muskoka are host to many events over the summer that draw cyclists and runners to train in our beautiful communities, we must also be aware of the day-to-day lifestyle of our local residents. Motorists may often in their travels see high school or elementary school age kids out running as part of their phys-ed activities. On the weekend or after school, motorists may encounter families out for a bicycle ride, or just people using this as their means of transportation.

In the coming weeks, outdoor events will begin. Some of the upcoming events in Huntsville and Lake of Bays include:

  • Spin the Lakes cycling tour – May 28, 2016
  • Band on the Run – June 11, 2016
  • Trimuskokan – June 26, 2016
  • Limberlost Challenge– July 9, 2016
  • 70.3 Ironman – July 10, 2016
  • Port Sydney Muskoka Kids Triathlon – July 16, 2016

Huntsville OPP reminds all cyclists to obey the rules of the road, runners to run with awareness and motorists to share the road. It is a shared responsibility in keeping our Ontario roads safe.
