If you’re missing the bakery’s apple beignet, its raspberry-filled oatmeal cookie, sausage roll, or one of its artisan, full-of-wholesome-goodness loaves of bread, you’ll now find Windmill Bakery and Bistro at 99 Hanes Road.
The bakery has added a bistro option with a breakfast and lunch menu complementing its traditional baked goods.
Its new location offers plenty of parking and outdoor space as well as rock outcroppings to sit on. The plan is to add tables outside so customers can enjoy soup, salad, or sandwiches outdoors, according to Windmill Bakery and Bistro co-owner Grace Willows.
“We moved here to be able to have a little bit more space for customers to be able to sit down outside, move around inside, and add our bistro options,” said Willows. “It’s been very well received and I must say even our staff were really enjoying the new space and being able to serve here.”
Bistro items include things like a European breakfast made of fresh crusty rolls, summer sausage and other meats as well as fresh eggs and condiments. A daily soup is also available, and the bakery has added a new rye sourdough multi-seed bread to its roster.
The bakery moved from its former King William Street location almost a month ago and is now located across the street from Muskoka Animal Hospital.
Moving during a pandemic perhaps made the move a little more relaxed, said Willows. “Things were quieter, I think there were lower expectations,” she said. “COVID just gave quieter space for everyone and lower expectations, and people were just happy when we could open.”
So far the response to their new location has been amazing, said Willows.
