With the arrival of fall and its stunning colour, and with it our long-awaited summer weather, there are plenty of ways to get out and enjoy both this weekend, along with some indoor events if you want to get away from it all.
Huntsville Fall Fair, September 22-24
(Gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday)
With a midway, horse show, agricultural displays and loads of entertainment, there’s something for everyone. Admission is $5 for adults and secondary school students; primary school students and younger are free when accompanied by an adult. Ride tickets are extra.
Huntsville Jr C Otters, September 22 8:00 p.m. and September 23 at 2:30 p.m.
If you need to cool off from the day’s unseasonably warm temperatures, head to the Canada Summit Centre for the Otters season home opener against the Stayner Siskins on Friday night. Huntsville Public Library Books & Brunch, September 23, 10-12
(advance tickets required, $25 per person)
Join the Huntsville Public Library for their second Books & Brunch, a wonderful opportunity to meet and chat with accomplished authors Amy Stuart and Andrew Pyper while enjoying a delicious brunch in the Highland Room of Hidden Valley Resort. 39th annual Muskoka Autumn Studio Tour, September 23-24 and September 30-October 1, 10-6 each day

Oxtongue Lake Artists’ Day Festival, September 23, 11-4
Featuring an art, craft and artisanal food fair, performances by The Deelies, a debut of the trailer for filmmaker Bob Hilscher’s new documentary Among the Trees, and more. Admission $5, children 12 years and under free.

Lake of Bays Brewing Company Pumpkin Party, September 23, 11-4
(Proceeds from both the party and the ride go to the Gord Downie Brain Cancer Research Fund.)
A fall fair for grown-ups! Live music, corn roast, sausage bar, pumpkin bowling, dunk tank, pie bake-off, foozeball, and more. (Did you hear that Lake of Bays Brewing Company is opening the Huntsville Brewhouse on Main Street in spring 2018? Read about it here.)
If you like to ride, join The Bike Shop of Gravenhurst & Huntsville group ride around beautiful Lake of Bays before you start Pumpkin Partying. Get a beer, a bite, some swag and a Pumpkin Party glass. The 76k ride starts at 9 a.m., the 30k at 10:30. Registration for each is $25.
Free public art exhibits, all month long
Check out the art exhibits at the Canada Summit Centre and Partners Hall in the Algonquin Theatre. Both are open for free whenever the buildings are open (but not to the general public in Partners Hall during ticketed or private events).

If the forecast is to be believed, next week and weekend will be just as gorgeous. Don’t forget to check out the free activities during Culture Days from September 29-October 1, including the culmination of the Algonquin Outfitters Tom Thomson Paddle Art Contest with a live event at the Algonquin Theatre. Proceeds support Oxtongue Lake for Arts and Culture and the Town of Huntsville reserve fund for future acquisition of public art.
Port Sydney’s 65th annual Turkey Dinner is on September 30, too: a traditional dinner with all the trimmings and homemade pie. There’s continuous seating from 3:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Port Sydney Community Hall. $15 for adults, $7 for children 12 years and younger. Fireworks on the beach follow at 8:15 p.m.
