Watch for full and partial road closures the morning of June 9 for annual road race

The annual, popular road race, Band on the Run, takes place on Saturday, June 9. There will once again be morning road closures to accommodate the thousands of runners and walkers who participate in the event, but organizers have taken steps to improve access to and from town on Brunel Road.

Here’s what to expect:

Main Street East between Brunel Road and Centre Street will be closed from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The swing bridge on Main Street will be closed from 8 a.m. to noon.

A single lane of Brunel will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to noon between Townline Road and North Mary Lake Road/Lockview Road. Bi-directional traffic will be permitted in the southbound (west side) lane only. OPP will control access at both ends―at Brunel at Lockview Road in the south end, and at Townline Road West at Hubbel Crescent in the north end―and a “follow me” lead vehicle with flaggers at each end will allow traffic to flow northbound and southbound in one direction at a time.

North Mary Lake Road will have a quarter lane closure from 8:30 to 11 a.m.

Parts of the following roads will be closed from 8 a.m. to noon:

West St. S
High St.
Princess St.
Veteran’s Way
Hillcrest Dr.
South Fairy Lake Rd.
Riverside Dr.
Townline Rd. E.
Forbes Hill Dr.
Camp Kitchen Rd.
Park Dr.

Some roads may open earlier than noon once all runners have completed that section of the course.

For those registered for the race, note the new location for race packet pick-up at the Active Living Centre (7 Camp Kitchen Rd, Huntsville) at the rear of the Canada Summit Centre on Friday, June 8 between noon and 10:00 p.m. Your packet can be picked up by a friend if they have a copy of your email confirmation, but you may want to stop in yourself to check out samples and gear from a variety of vendors.

If you haven’t registered, there’s still time! Registration is open online until Thursday, June 7 or you can register in person at the Active Living Centre during the race packet pick-up hours noted above. There is no race-day registration.

Your registration fee includes tickets for the afternoon music festival, which returns to River Mill Park this year. Soul45, featuring alumni and current members of the Huntsville High School Song Project, kicks the festival off with past and present Soul, Funk and R’n’B hits. Then rock out to Bon Jovi tribute band, Keep the Faith. Headliner Jonesy, a Canadian cover band from the Niagara region, wraps things up with some of the latest and classic pop songs.

Not racing? You can still attend the music festival! Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the gate. Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult with a ticket. Get more information here.

Ok, I work for Al’s Taxi. Office located at Brunel and High Streets. I need to get there to pick up my cab. Are the organizers going to let me get to work? I start at 8:30 , how do I get there?
