Updated Huntsville development charges effective January 1, 2024

From the Town of Huntsville

The Town of Huntsville has released the updated Development Charges for 2024 that will come into effect on January 1, 2024.

As per By-law No. 2019-133, Development Charges are indexed annually as of January 1, using the non-residential building construction price index in the third quarter (Q3) of the preceding year, which was 6.6% in 2023. The updated charges represent an increase of $435 per unit for single & semi-detached houses and an increase of $0.08 per square foot for non-residential construction.

Exemptions are available for eligible affordable housing development.

Development charges are levied against new development imposed to assist in financing the infrastructure required to meet the increased need for services resulting from growth and development. Development charges help protect existing taxpayers by having growth pay for growth.
