Funded by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada the SFIF supports not-for-profit organizations in enhancing infrastructure and equipment for school food programs. The initiative aims to improve access to nutritious food for students.

“Ensuring that students have access to healthy meals is essential for their well-being and academic success,” says Brian Shelley, Chief Executive and Philanthropy Officer, United Way Simcoe Muskoka. “The School Food Infrastructure Fund provides a vital opportunity for local organizations to strengthen their food programs and make a real difference in the lives of children in our communities.”

Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Registered charity (with its own RR number) or a First Nations Band designated as a qualified donee by the Canada Revenue Agency or a registered non-profit organization (OCN BIN).
  • Maintain a volunteer board that meets regularly.
  • Host an Annual General Meeting.
  • Carry sufficient liability insurance (at least $2 million).
  • Provide audited financial statements (agencies with revenues under $250,000 may submit reviewed statements from a licensed public accountant).
  • Activities must benefit residents within the catchment area of United Way Simcoe Muskoka.
  • Financially solvent applicant (or partnering sponsor organization).
  • Letter of support from the partnering school or school board.

The application period is open from February 12, 2025, to March 12, 2025, at 5:00PM EST, with funding decisions being communicated by May 1, 2025.

“By supporting these vital school food programs, United Way Simcoe Muskoka is working to build stronger, healthier communities where all children have the opportunity to thrive.” said Shelley.
