The Huntsville Hawks Tyke U9 Field Team have wrapped up a fantastic season.

The U9 Field Team has been travelling to Brampton over the last five weeks, competing in three games every Saturday and finishing the season with a 15-1-1 record which had the team accumulate the most points given in the U9 loop, said Coach Kory Shirtliff.

Coach Shirtliff described the 2017 season as “unbelievable”. The coaches worked with the players to develop their skills as some had never played before. “To watch where we started to where we finished was the most satisfying thing for me as a coach.”

The teams’ final weekend of play had the boys playing five games in two days in Brampton on May 13-14, 2017. The Hawks U9 boys overcame unruly weather conditions filled with rain, wind and cold days but managed to pull their skills together to beat London, the best team in the province.

Saturday had the Hawks play against London which was a hard battle for the team but the boys fought hard to finish the game with a winning score of 10-7. Next, the boys met Whitby on the field and owned the win beating them 12-4. The final game of the day was a close one but the Hawks controlled the outcome holding their winning streak 9-8 over Burlington.

On Sunday, the Hawks played against Orangeville. The boys had met their match and in a lull, Orangeville took the lead by two. With two minutes left in the game, the Hawks pushed through with heart and managed to score three goals bringing the score 8-7 for their fourth win of the weekend.

In the final game, Huntsville was up against Milton. Each player came to play and they took their fifth and final win 9-1. Way to bring it home, boys! Congratulations U9 Tykes Hawks.
