At its April 8 meeting, Lake of Bays Council approved a municipal staff recommendation to discontinue webcasting certain committee meetings altogether.
According to staff, all Council and Committee of Adjustment meetings, as well as planning meetings, will continue to be webcast and recorded. However, all other committee meetings, such as the Heritage Advisory Committee meetings and other ad-hoc meetings, will not be webcast but only recorded.
Councillor Nancy Tapley questioned the rationale behind the recommendation. “They’re very informal at this point, so we would like to keep them informal. If you’d like to make them formal, then we can do that as well, but because they are very informal at this point, they don’t need to be webcast,” explained Township Clerk Carrie Sykes, who also noted in follow-up emails with Doppler that the bylaw will simply reflect the current practice.
Lake of Bays Mayor Terry Glover said people can attend the meetings in person. “We serve tea and coffee,” he said.
