Township of Lake of Bays pauses the Municipal Accommodation Tax

From the Township of Lake of Bays

The Township of Lake of Bays Council has voted to pause the implementation of a proposed Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) program during the November 12, 2024, Council meeting. This decision follows valuable public input from a community survey and local accommodators.

Through this engagement, Council and staff have gained important insights that will help guide future decisions pertaining to the program. Staff will continue to work with stakeholders and encourage the public to stay informed about updates and engagement opportunities.

A total of 179 survey responses were received, primarily from residents and accommodators. An overview of the survey results can be found in the Staff Report available at Lakeofbays.on.ca/MAT.

Yes Bill it has helped the Town. Remember it supply’s staff wages/time and the the remaining $ are split. It works in Huntsville because of Deerhurst Resort and many Hotels, giving it a large resource of money
Lake of Bay’s does not have that large financial base and tourist coming to Lake of Bay – love the quiet and beauty while being able to afford a less expensive vacation. Add another tax and a decrease will occur which will affect their revenue and the tax will also go down. Smaller resorts carefully consider any increase in rate every year just trying to keep up with expenses, as they know it affects their guests. Thanks to L of B for listening to their residents and tourist owners
