Township of Lake of Bays installs new columbarium at Paint Lake Cemetery

From the Township of Lake of Bays

This week, the Township of Lake of Bays installed a new columbarium at Paint Lake Cemetery in Dorset. It is the third columbarium available across the Township.

The columbarium is located within the Paint Lake Cemetery, a historic site that has served Dorset’s early settlers. It provides above-ground interment options for families wishing to honour their loved ones in a tranquil place deeply rooted in local history.

The first known burial at Paint Lake Cemetery was Zachariah Cole, a settler who died in 1873.

History fans can pick up a brochure for a new Walking Tour at Paint Lake Cemetery’s westernmost gate, exploring early Dorset’s history through those buried there. A digital version and other self-guided tours are available on our Heritage Walking Tours page.
