At their November 29 General Committee meeting, Huntsville councillors solidified their interest in two properties in the municipality for their strategic value to the Town.
The motion to permit Huntsville CAO Denise Corry to undergo discussions surrounding the properties where the current Fairven Nursing Home is located at 14 Mill Street and the Mountview Wastewater Treatment Plant property at 20 Mountview Avenue, was bumped from the Community Services Master Plan Committee. “It was bumped from that committee directly to General [Committee] because we felt it actually had lots of value for the whole table and all of the committees,” said Huntsville Mayor Nancy Alcock.
Scott Morrison, who chairs the committee it was bumped from, spoke about the importance of the lands particularly for committee member Steve Alcock who he said is passionate about the lands for good reason.
“We do know that long term we as a Town would love to own those two pieces of land. It allows us to accomplish a ton of our goals—whether they’d be parks, trails, community services—but the time is now with a new Fairvern being built and Mountview being decommissioned,” said Morrison.
The CAO is expected to report back on the status of discussions.

Donna Galashan, that’s why I think the Town is inquiring. I’d recommend reading the Waterfront Development Strategy published by the town two years ago. It addresses both properties. The Mountview site is designed for passive public use. I’ve attached the link for your convenience

Can the Town do anything to protect these lands from development?
