UPDATE 10:47 a.m. from the OPP:

Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a threat that was made via the social media site Twitter to a Trillium Lakelands School at 9:05 a.m. today. The Tweet was made to the Trillium Lakelands School Board and as a result all Trillium Lakeland Schools, both elementary and secondary were put into a “Hold and Secure” in order to ensure the safety of students while police investigate.

The “Hold and Secure” procedure ensures that the schools are locked, prohibiting any movement into or out of the buildings. Students are otherwise carrying on their day as normal.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to contact Bracebridge OPP at (888) 310-1122 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. You can submit your information online at www.crimestopperssdm.com if you have any information on this crime or any other crime. All schools in the Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) are in a hold and secure due to a generalized threat that is being investigated by police. The threat is external and classes remain in session as usual.

The board received a “generalized threat” this morning and are unable to identify at this time where the threat is located. They continue to investigate and have put all schools under a hold and secure pattern as a precaution, until police are able to narrow down the location of the threat maker and the issue has been resolved.

In a release, TLDSB said that a “hold and secure is used to secure the school due to an ongoing situation.
In this situation the school continues to function normally, with all exterior doors being locked until the situation is resolved.”

Stay tuned for updates.
