The Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says it has arrested and charged three people after responding to a break-and-enter.
On March 18, 2024, shortly after 5:30 a.m., Almaguin Highlands OPP responded to a break-and-enter into a building at the historical train station in the Village of South River on Montreal Avenue.
As a result of the investigation, multiple people were arrested and approximately 53 grams of suspected Fentanyl was seized. The estimated street value of the drugs is approximately $21,000.
James CARTER, 33 years old, of South River was charged with:
- Break, enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence
- Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin)
- Engage in prohibited activity on premises
The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail Court in Parry Sound on March 18, 2024.
Vincent BEASELY, 34-years-old, and Steven CHREST, 36-years-old, both from South River were also charged with:
- Break, enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence
- Possession of a schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin)
- Engage in prohibited activity on premises
Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 25, 2024, in Sundridge, Ontario.
