Three HHS students earned spots at the OFSAA 2017 Track and Field Championships

Huntsville High School was well represented last weekend, June 1-3, at the OFSAA Championships for Track and Field in Belleville.

Three HHS students – Gabby Arsenault, Fiona Shearing, and Colin Hungerford – earned a spot in the largest high school sporting event in Canada after competing in three qualifying Track and Field meets: the Northern GBSSA/MPS meet, the Southern GBSSA meet, and the OFSAA Regional Qualifier.

Colin Hungerford performed exceptionally well and brought home bronze in the Midget Boys 300m Hurdles with a time of 41.03.

Gabby Arsenault finished 19th in the Women’s 200m Dash Junior. When asked about the overall experience, she said, “We had a wonderful season with great coaches and amazing team mates. Making it to OFSAA was the best way to end the season.”

Fiona Shearing placed 11th in the Women’s 3000m Long Distance Run Midget. She had this to say about her season: “It was a wonderful experience to be able to race at OFSAA and see all of the amazing athletes. I had a great season and OFSAA was a great way to finish it.”

Well done, Hoyas!

The athletes all thanked their coaches – Kelly Picken, Laurie Clarke, Teresa Patterson, Susanne Allenspiers and Michael Gaffney – for their support throughout the season.

Coach Gaffney said, “These athletes showed incredible poise and focus on the biggest Track and Field stage this province and country has to offer.”
