Thomas Banks

With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Thomas Banks of Huntsville, Ontario, on the 11th of October, 2023, at the age of 88. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, June Banks, their children Laura (Harvey) and Mike (Nathalie), and 10 grandchildren: Tash (Eric), Naomi (Jake), Nicole (Wyatt), Amber, Jordan, Crystal, Jennifer, Riley, Myanna, and Dimitri. Additionally, he holds a special place in the hearts of those he embraced as a foster Popa over the years.

Tom is reunited in eternity with his sister Maggie (Ron), his parents and loving friends, and remembered fondly by his 4 nieces.

His golfing buddies and close friends, some of whom have known him for over 65 years, will forever cherish his memory.

Prior to his illness, Tom was an avid golfer and a dedicated volunteer who wholeheartedly supported his wife in her many commitments throughout the years. Their shared endeavors included invaluable contributions to Hospice, Huntsville Hospital, the Food Bank, , and, above all, unwavering love and support for his  family .  Tom was an active member and past president  of Probus, on the board of directors for his condo board, and worked into his 70’s.  He was a man who did not like to sit still. He was the happiest  building and renovating,  cottaging, working, playing cards, attending live theatre and keeping a busy social life with June, his social convenor.

Tom’s journey began with humble beginnings, born to immigrant Scottish parents. His early years were shaped in his parents Toronto Scottish bakery, where he learned the art of hard work and dedication. Summers were spent in Waubaushene, adding cherished memories to his childhood and where he would meet his wife.

As he came of age, Tom lived in Scarborough, Unionville and Mississauga, where he embarked on various endeavors, including a brief stint in the services and banking. However, it was in the world of sales that he discovered his true calling. Armed with nothing more than a high school education, his boundless work ethic, charismatic personality, and unwavering commitment to his craft propelled him to success. He thrived in various management roles but never let go of his first love, sales—a true salesman at heart.

His presence was that of kindness, humour and always commitment to whatever he did. He was steadfast man who filled a room with his quiet yet, engaging spirit.
