Mayor’s Bike Ride

Third annual Mayor’s Bike Ride promotes active living and sharing the road

The third annual Mayor’s Bike Ride rolled out of River Mill Park last night (June 8). Several dozen riders of all ages joined Mayor Scott Aitchison and The SportLab for the 12 kilometre ride through the streets of Huntsville.

Prior to the ride, Mayor Aitchison told the assembled cyclists, “Leading and active, healthy life is an important thing… This is not just about leading active, healthy lives. This is about sharing the road and making sure that not just cyclists but motorists as well understand the importance of sharing the road with everybody. Roads are not just about cars, they are about all of us.”

The mayor then led the group on the ride on a bike donated by Algonquin Outfitters for the event.

Organizer Lowell Greib from The SportLab thanked his staff, Algonquin Outfitters, The Bike Shop in Huntsville, the Town of Huntsville and Sustainability Huntsville for their help in organizing and promoting the event.
