Edge of the Woods Theatre is seeking community participants for a number of special programs taking place during the Edge of the Woods Theatre Festival from July 4-31 at Chaffey Studio Theatre, 24 Chaffey Township Rd.
“Our festival not only offers five adventurous and entertaining music and comedy productions but also the chance for community members to engage their own creativity and to share their own stories and perspectives through the arts,” says Dan Watson, Artistic Producer.
This summer, the festival is offering education programs for youth and opportunities for community members to share their voices and perspectives. The festival is currently seeking community members interested in participating in the following initiatives.
Blind Date Reviews invites two strangers to attend a festival show together and collaborate to write a review that will be published by Doppler Online. The festival will offer complimentary tickets for a community member to attend one of the festival shows with a journalist from Doppler Online. They will meet for the first time at the show, watch the performance, and then write a review about it together. Participants will get complimentary tickets and beverages, as well as the chance to share their voice with thousands in and around Huntsville.
Secret Family Recipe offers history and community profiles through food. Throughout the festival, invited community members will prepare a sample of one of their favorite family recipes for audience members, and share the history of where and who it came from. This is a chance to taste delicious local dishes, meet others and learn about the history of Huntsville and the people who live in it. Edge of the Woods Festival will cover the costs of ingredients and offer access to a certified kitchen. Participants will receive complimentary tickets to a festival performance and the opportunity to share their own family history.
The 2016 Youth Programming features two programs. The first is The Edge of the Woods Summer Drama Camp running from July 4-8 for youth ages 8-12. Led by theatre artist Christina Serra (Ralph + Lina), and professional puppeteers, youth will work together using Music, Puppets and Games to create a short performance under the bright lights of the Studio Theatre Stage. Next up is the Out of the Box Technical Theatre Training Program for young people ages 14-21. Over 8 sessions between July 6-31, participants will learn skills in theatre production including lighting, sound, projection and more through hands on learning with professionals working in the theatre industry.
