Deerhurst Water Ski show

The world’s best water skiers are coming to Deerhurst

After almost a year of planning, the World Water Ski Show Tournament will be underway at Deerhurst Resort with the opening ceremony at 6:30 pm on Friday, September 7. While the main competition takes place Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9, spectators are welcome to come watch the international teams practice Monday through Friday prior to the competition.

The competition has drawn the best show skiers on the globe, with athletes coming from Australia, US, Belgium, China, Germany and host country Canada. Many of the Team Canada members are from the Muskoka area and first put on skis in one of the many lakes in the region. There will be over 250 athletes and an anticipated 5000-plus spectators in attendance during the week leading up to the weekend tournament. This year is the largest competitive field in history of the tournament. It is also the first time the event is being held in Canada.

Starting with the opening ceremonies parade of classic Muskoka boats on Friday evening, the event will be live streamed to 200,000 viewers who will watch two days of intense competition with each team performing two shows. Historically, this event has generated over $2 million to the local economy.

Weekend passes are $10 in advance or $20 at the gate, and children 12 and under are free. Passes can be purchased online by clicking here. (worldwaterskishowtournament.com)

Spectator parking will be available at the Deerhurst Adventure Park, just east of the resort, on Highway 60. The parking cost of $5 per day includes shuttle service to the waterfront event site. (There will be no spectator parking available at the resort.)

In addition to incredible stunts, technical sophistication and even some comedy sprinkled into the amazing shows put on by the teams, spectators will also witness the most powerful water ski boat to enter Muskoka waters. The tow boat to be used in the tournament was custom built by Legacy Ski Boats in Wisconsin and has 500 H.P. mounted on the transom. The motors are state-of-the-art twin 250H.P. G2 Evinrudes making this the most powerful show ski boat in Canada.

The competition will start at 7:30 am on the Saturday and Sunday and run through the day. For a complete schedule of events visit worldwaterskishowtournament.com.
