The Town of Huntsville has some incredible programs this winter you won’t want to miss!

Registration for winter programs at the Town of Huntsville opens today, December 15!

Aquatics programming starts the first week of January with lessons around water safety and teaching kids to swim through the Life Saving Society. Lessons are offered for children six months old and up.

There are also swimming lessons for adults who would like to learn to swim, which is always a good idea when you’re surrounded by water. Manager of Aquatics for the Town of Huntsville, Cameron Labonte, said there was a lot of interest and uptake for the new program in the fall so the winter class size has been expanded. “We have a lot of people in the area who can swim, we’ve also got a lot of people who didn’t have access.”

The pool is also available for evening lap swims on Wednesdays and Thursdays as well as evening aquafitness classes on Thursday nights. Kayaking lessons will also be available on Tuesdays as well as kayak polo. There are also a variety of classes, including aquafitness offered from 9 am until Noon every day of the week. “We’re hoping people will get out of the house and away from the cold into the pool and do some aquafitness and stay healthy,” said Labonte.

He said the Town is also actively recruiting lifeguards and swim instructors. There is a lifeguarding course available the first week of January, from the 2nd to the 8th. He said the Town is also looking to run another swim instructor course during the winter with a date to be announced. Both of these courses require a minimum age of 15 to join. “If you’re looking for a career in aquatics, if this is something that interests you or you’re looking for part-time work, you can reach out to me and I can help you out with that and sign up for those programs,” said Labonte. January also brings an exciting new program for participants 6-12 to learn a different sport each week. There is also an Active Kids/Youth program for kids 5-8 and youth 9-15, which focuses on games, exercise, and having fun!

Don’t forget the Holiday Camps taking place December 23, 27 and from the 28th to the 30th as well as Jan 2 & Jan 3-6. Campers ages 4-12 will participate in outdoor games, swimming, and skating!

Adult programs

Town staff have been working hard to bring you an amazing array of programming for all interests and ages at the Canada Summit Centre as well as offsite.
