An estimated 500 participants are expected to take part this year in the Limberlost Challenge, an ultra trail race at the Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve.
This year marks the Limberlost Challenge’s 15th anniversary. The race is one of Ontario’s largest and most technically challenging ultra trail running events with 7, 14, 28, 42 and 56 km races.
The race was established in 2010 and is always highly anticipated by the running community, with most of the runners coming from southern Ontario to compete, as well as a notable number from local communities, the US, and Europe.
The ages of the runners are predominantly 40-49 years, followed by 30-39 years, and 50-59 years old, and are equally split between male and female participants.
Many of the runners treat The Limberlost Challenge as a “destination,” and often organize a camping trip around the event with family members and friends, sometimes extending their stay in the area for the weekend or longer.
A portion of each runner’s registration fee goes towards a donation to the Trail’s Youth Initiative (https://trails.ca/ ), which brings urban youth to experience the outdoors and grow their leadership skills.
