The Huntsville Interact Club, sponsored by local Rotary Clubs, is comprised of about 20 energetic students between the ages of 12-18 who want to give back to their community and to help those in need. They regularly volunteer their time to help those around them while developing their leadership skills, promoting international and community understanding and discovering the power of Service Above Self.
In December 2016, the Huntsville Interact Club was given an opportunity to help the local Salvation Army. Our local Candian Ski Patrol-Muskoka Zone was rebranding their uniforms and they had a number of decent, good quality jackets that had nowhere to go. Before the jackets could be given or donated to anyone, all of the ski patrol emblems – three or four per jacket – needed to be painstakingly unstitched from the jackets. So the Interact members spent many lunch hours holding “unstitching bees” until the task was complete. Finally, approximately 40 jackets were donated to the Salvation Army to then be distributed to local community members in need.
Pictured above are Nicola DeRoode and Chantel Musselman of the Huntsville Interact Club receiving a cheque for $564 from Rotary Club of Huntsville President Jennifer Jerrett and club member Peter Redwood, the proceeds of the auction of four of those jackets during the Rotary Christmas party.
