Stolen vehicle and break in leads to arrest early this morning (June 2)

On Thursday June 2, 2016 just before 3:00am Huntsville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was advised that a pickup truck had been stolen from a driveway on Main St W. in the town of Huntsville. The culprit had broken in the victim’s residence removed the keys and drove it away.

Members were patrolling the town in search of the pickup truck and at the same time were made aware that a male was breaking into a residence on Ferguson Rd. The officers were provided a description of the suspect and located the male near the residence. While attempting to arrest him, he assaulted the officer and took off in the police vehicle. The suspect travelled a short distance and put the police vehicle into the ditch causing minor damage.

The 26-year-old male exhibited signs of impaired and was transported to a local area hospital where he remains under observation at this time.

Investigation is continuing.
