We have a lot of snow on the ground and as the sun shines and the days get warmer, careful attention is being paid to factors such as overnight temperatures and precipitation.
Each year, the Town of Huntsville actively monitors the status of the spring freshet together with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and municipal partners across Muskoka, explained Tarmo Uukkivi, Huntsville Director of Infrastructure and Protective Services.
“There are many factors that are considered when evaluating flood risk. The current information that the Town of Huntsville is receiving suggests a normal Spring freshet,” according to Uukkivi. “There is no current active flood risk although conditions can change rapidly. Forecast daytime high temperatures at or above freezing with forecast overnight low temperatures well below freezing and no forecast significant precipitation will promote a slow, controlled thaw.”
Given the unpredictability of weather, Uukkivi reiterated, “It bears repeating that this assessment is the current assessment only and is subject to change as weather and temperature conditions change.”
