On February 4, 202 people gathered on the Beginner Hill at Hidden Valley Highlands Ski Area, along with thousands of other people at more than 100 ski hills across the country, to try to break the Guinness World Record for the most snow angels done at one time. The current world record is 15,851.
“There’s been some comments lately about ski patrollers being snow guardians and that progressed to snow angels because we are the angels of the hill who help people in distress and provide safety advice and emergency medical first aid,” said Jodie Marc Lalonde from the Canadian Ski Patrol Muskoka Zone. The event coincides with Canadian Ski Patrol Day.
It’s not the first time the ski patrol has attempted to break the record. Last year, they made it more than halfway to that number with 50 locations participating.
Lalonde said once all of the numbers have been submitted from across the country, organizers should have a final count within a few hours.

If you like the outdoors and want to get involved with ski patrol, Lalonde said they welcome volunteers – even if you don’t ski. “You get access to great medical training and are part of a cross-Canada community. And you don’t have to ski to be a ski patroller because we do so many summertime events.
