It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our Budgie on January 8, 2025, at the age of 75.
She was the beloved wife of 55 wonderful years to Bas, who was her rock, just as she was his. Loving and devoted mom to Tricia (Jeremy) Dickie and Rob (Tiff Monk) Zonneveld. Budgie was the cherished grandmother to Payton (Mackenzie Chambers) Dickie and Logan Dickie. Sister to Cathy Moffatt and Maureen (David) Trenchard and dear sister-in-law to Lynda, John, Jack, Nellie, Deborah, as well as Leen, Joan, Willie, Dennis, Cees, Maddie, Ellie, Dick and Bill. She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews and close friends. Predeceased by her parents Bob and Norma Moffatt.
Budgie will be remembered as a loving and caring person, a ‘supermom’ who was strong-willed and a true go-getter. Her willingness to try new things was especially evident in her diverse career path. For many years, Budgie ran a clown business with two of her close friends, performing as “Wacko” the clown. Together, they brought laughter and joy to families through face painting and entertainment at fairs, children’s parties, and Christmas celebrations. She also worked for the Ministry of Transportation as a “wingman” for snow removal services, breaking barriers as one of the first women to hold that role. Further to this, Budgie also drove a school bus for many years, which we are pretty sure gave her the strength to deal with all the crazy life throws at you.
Later in life, after her kids were grown, Budgie returned to school to pursue her degree in Early Childhood Education from Sheridan College. She went on to work with both the Trillium Lakelands District School Board and the District School Board of Niagara, where she retired from.
Budgie was a creative and crafty person. She loved sewing and quilting and, in recent years, had really taken a liking to painting and sketching workshops. She also enjoyed her time in the great outdoors. Having spent so many years of her life in the Muskoka region and Hunsville, she developed a love for camping and canoeing in its beautiful surroundings.
In keeping with Budgie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of her life will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Port Cares.
