Self-cleaning oven mode leads to fire call

From the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department

The fire department responded to a reported appliance fire that turned out to be heavy smoke coming from an oven in self-cleaning mode. The homeowner had accidentally left trays and racks inside during the cycle.

A reminder to always read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions before using the self-cleaning feature on your oven. These appliances can reach temperatures of up to 500°F, and anything left inside can produce significant smoke and create a fire hazard.

Stay safe and double-check before you clean!
