Rotary sponsors therapy room for kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder with $26,000 donation

One Kids Place in Huntsville is relocating to the Campus Trail medical building. Their move in scheduled for January 2022, with a plan to be open for clients and families by the end of January.

The Snoezelen room is an integral part of the One Kids Place building and is used for therapy for not only children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, but for those suffering most neurological conditions.

Developed in the Netherlands in the 1970s, a Snoezelen room is a sensory environment in a relaxed atmosphere with pleasant surroundings—it is soothing, tactile, there are light effects, and it provides an opportunity for interaction and engagement. For children, sensory play is a fundamental part of human development.

The Rotary Club of Huntsville is proud to be the sole sponsor of the new Huntsville Snoezelen Room and have contributed $26,000 to provide valuable sensory equipment and resources to assist with the completion of this project. The Rotary Wheel will be prominently placed in the room to serve as a reminder of the generosity and dedication from Rotary Club in Huntsville.

“We are so grateful for the generosity and dedication from the Huntsville Rotary Club to our children and youth with special needs,” says Katharine Strang, development officer with One Kids Place. This room will be amazing! This is such an exciting time considering all that we have been through with the pandemic.”

One Kids Place along with the Rotary Club of Huntsville, look forward to spring and a grand opening event to help celebrate this wonderful addition to the Huntsville community.
