Rotary Club wants to make it up to bingo players for last week’s confusion

People playing Rotary TV Bingo last Tuesday night no doubt noticed that some things were a little off.

The confusion started in the first game with a mix up in the calling which, according to a spokesperson from the Rotary Club of Huntsville, set off a firestorm of phone calls and essentially affected the rest of the night.

In a release, the Rotary Club of Huntsville says that there were an unfortunate series of problems, some mechanical and some human error that affected the games. The Club is hoping their loyal following will give them a second chance and tune in on Tuesday night (August 23) to hear their apology and their special announcement.

We regret these errors and ask viewers to tune in to CogecoTV next Tuesday, August 23 at 7:00 pm for an important announcement prior to the start of our game.Rotary Club of Huntsville

Those who aren’t familiar with the weekly game might want to buy some cards and tune is as well. The Super Jackpot (a full card in 52 numbers) is worth $4000 – it was increased July 5 from the previous $3000 jackpot. The minimum weekly payout from the five games is $1500.

Ticket outlets include the downtown Mac’s convenience stores, Westside Variety, Brunel Mart, Huntsville IDA Drugs, West Road Convenience, Popps in the Mall, Shoppers and both locations of the Capstone/Petro Canada stores.

For over ten years the Rotary Bingo has returned over $90,000 annually to the community in the form of prize money and community work.

The social programs that the bingo games help to support include:

  • Scholarships for Huntsville High School students pursuing secondary education, usually $4000 per year according to Rob Saunders from the Rotary Club of Huntsville
  • Supports in the community in conjunction with social services agencies, including assisting with the cost of wheelchairs, walkers, dentures, and hydro bills. Between $8000-10,000 per year is allocated to these supports via Rotary’s Human Development committee.
  • Rotary’s youth exchange program
  • Rotary’s annual commitment to The Table Food Bank, $5000 per year
  • The Junior Achievement Program
  • Huntsville High School’s breakfast program
  • Sending local students to outreach programs and workshops
  • Sending local students to the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy
  • Stuffing backpacks for kids at the start of the school year
  • Sending kids to OPP Youth Camps

Rotary Bingo plays on CogecoTV channels 10 and 700 on Tuesdays at 7pm.
