Each year the Rotary Club of Huntsville asks the community to recommend an outstanding local person for its annual community recognition award.
This year the club has selected Matt Montpetit for the honour.
Nominator Peter Redwood cited Montpetit’s volunteer work both locally and internationally, as well as his willingness to assist Rotary with its events.
“In Matt’s capacity of manager of the Muskoka division of Moore Propane, he has extended to Rotary the gift of free propane over the last several years. This year alone the value of the propane approached $1,000,” wrote Redwood. “On many occasions Matt has come to our rescue with assistance in solving problems with our BBQ and helping in completing the various forms required to use propane on our town streets. On one occasion he left his family at an event and came in person to assist me in getting the BBQ working. This generosity and his vast service abroad and in the local area certainly shows that Matt demonstrates the Rotary motto of ‘service above self’ and truly is deserving of this award.”
Other past Paul Harris Fellow award recipients have included Randy and Tracy Robinson, former owners of Robinson’s Your Independent Grocer, Jan Nyquist, owner of Pipefusion, and volunteer extraordinaire Wendy Dingman.
Paul Harris was Rotary’s founder. The award in his name was created to recognize the contributions and service of Rotarians to their club, but clubs are also encouraged to bestow the award on non-Rotarian community members who embody the spirit of Rotary in contributions to their community.
