Remembering Doug Cunnington

1941 to 2025

On Thursday, May 14, 2026, between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., a reception to remember Doug will be held at ‘Charlie’s Barn’ at Port Cunnington Lodge.

Doug was born and raised at the Lodge, which was founded by his pioneer Grandfather, B.H. Cunnington in 1890. It seemed fitting to bring him home for his final goodbye.

He will be remembered by the descendants of those who came to the Lodge when his parents, Nellie and Charlie, ran it during the summer months of his youth, by former students, by scouting and teaching friends, by local cottagers, and by friends and extended family.

In later years, Doug became an historian, preserving the history of the Lake of Bays. Many of you may have read his books. His last book, completed the year he died, was ‘From Birchbark to Mahogany’.

We welcome you back to Port Cunnington Lodge on May 14.

Doug’s family.
