“When you leave from Girlz Unplugged you will feel like you are on top of the world.” – Past Program Participant
“Hands down the best summer camp program in Muskoka, I wish it could run every week. Both of my daughters benefited from it so much. Thank you to the Y for being so committed to young women. Every girl in Muskoka should be a part of this program, it is life changing.” – Parent of Participant
The theme for this year’s YWCA Muskoka Girlz Unplugged (ages 9-11) and Girlspace (12-16) camps will be ‘Sowing Seeds’. It will focus on how to grow and nurture a healthy self, a healthy mind, healthy leaders and a healthy
environment.
Facilitator Marcy Hill says, “We all need a purpose in life and to feel connected to ourselves, our friends and our community. It is important for our youth to understand the effect they have on the planet, their family and friends and their own well-being.”
YWCA Muskoka is offering four weeks of GIRLZ UNPLUGGED SUMMER for girls aged 9 to 11 this year:
- July 3-6 in Bracebridge
- July 9-13 in Huntsville
- July 30 – August 3 in Bracebridge and
- August 7-10 in Huntsville
Now in its seventh year, GIRLSPACE LEADERSHIP is designed specifically for ages 12 to 16. Along with themed programming, Girlspace also offers participants additional training and an opportunity to be a volunteer peer mentor for a day in the Girlz Unplugged Summer programs. Girlspace weeklong programs will be in Bracebridge, July 16 to 20 and in Huntsville, July 23 to 27. Each group is limited to 20 participants.
Both girls’ programs run daily from 9 to 4 pm with extended hours for drop off and pick up. Healthy snacks are included and subsidies are available.
In an effort to reach more youth in Muskoka, YWCA Muskoka and YMCA Gravenhurst have joined forces to run a Healthy Mind, Healthy Body day program, August 13-17 at the YMCA in Gravenhurst. This program is for girls 8-12 years old.
Youth Programs Coordinator Stacey Schat says, “YWCA Muskoka is delighted to be partnering with YMCA Gravenhurst to run this week of summer programming. One half of the day will be facilitated by a YWCA staff person and have a focus on creating a healthy mind and self-worth. The afternoon will include active games and programming to strengthen one’s body and it will be facilitated by a YMCA staff member.”

Please register for Marcy Hill’s program(s) early: They fill up incredibly fast. Young ladies in this town could never find a better role model; (excepting those who are fortunate enough to do it in concert with an exceptional mother/sister/aunt/grandmother).
